October 3rd Star Party is ON!
A beautiful clear autumn day is expected to lead us into clear skies this evening at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. Sunset will be at approximately 6:32 PM. The last quarter Moon sets in the early afternoon at approximately 2:47 PM - well ahead of the Sun - so it will not impact the views this evening unless you stay to watch it rise over the trees around 1:00 AM. Astronomical twilight ends at approximately 8:02 PM. Saturn should be visible over the trees at the eastern end of the parking lot starting from around 7:30 PM, but we recommend giving it time to get a bit higher for the best views. Neptune rises even earlier, so give it a shot, too!
Not bringing a telescope? Our members are happy to share the views - just ask!
It's going to be a chilly one, starting around 61°F at sunset and dropping into the lower 50s as we approach midnight, so please be sure to dress warmly. Long pants and warm footwear are recommended. If you choose to use insect repellant, please apply well away from telescopes.
Please check out our Star Parties Page for helpful information including directions and tips on how to make the most of your evening with us. We look forward to seeing you tonight!
